STH LISMORE SHOP – Flourish Designs, 15 Casino St Sth Lismore 0427 545 398 Open 10-5pm FaceBook
“A NEW boutique featuring unique, handmade clothing and the atmosphere of a French boudoir is like a little oasis in South Lismore, according to owner and designer Jeht Burgoyne. Flourish Designs opened in South Lismore in October (2013) and has been recording a great number of sales since. As a trained visual artist, Ms Burgoyne said clothing was her form of creativity. She creates up to 30 designs a week, with all pieces made right there in her studio, which is attached to the store.
“I make what I feel like making, or what I’m inspired to make,” she said. “I like to keep it fresh and alive.
“(My clothing) is for the ladies who want something not hippy, but arty – it’s very bohemian.” “(The style is) very individual, very different. There’s lots of hand-dyed, lacy and embellished (pieces) – it’s very North Coast.”
A great feature of some of her designs is a special style of dyeing she has perfected over the past 20 years. “You’ll find that in other designs the dye will run, but in mine the dye stays in the garment forever,” she said. Ms Burgoyne said the boutique had a wide range of customers, from singers and performers looking for an outfit for a show to mothers of the bride looking for a wedding outfit. In addition to clothing, the store features artwork, homewares and jewellery.
STH LISMORE SHOP: Lismore Collectables, 67-69 Union St South Lismore ph: 66217305
A little hidden delight on the south side, with possibly the best collection of new 50’s style Rockabilly dresses and fashion in the Northern Rivers?? I am not in the “scene” so correct me if I am wrong! Hell Bunny dresses from London are the real deal, look and feel awesome and nicely priced. Lots of vintage, retro antique bits and pieces including a fabulous collection of “I Dream Of Jeannie” style coloured and bubbled glass stoppered bottles. Fancy some vegie seedlings or a daisy bush for the garden? Well you can get those as well, at the adjoining Garden Nursery. Its a ripper of a one stop shop. At Facebook.
ST LISMORE SHOP/ PERSON: Jesse Mackintosh, No Good Clothing/House Of M, markets and South Lismore.
You have probably seen Jesse about. He has been doing his post consumer punk fashion for several years now. I am new to his work. I like the work and the artist. It’s “upcycled” fashion, original screenprints onto “original” fashion (ie. second hand)…shirts, waistcoats, skirts, ties, undies, pillowcases….He now has a shop in Union St, South Lismore – House Of M.
