The lovely Jas from the Mumtaj Indian Restaurant family is juggling between his new venture, Keen On Green, in the day while working at Mumtaj at night and still manages to smile and be ever so friendly whenever I drop in. We like that. And Lismore seems to be liking his cafe and food as well. All local produce, mostly organic and buy direct from producers. No microwave, all cooked fresh. Generous pie slices, curries, lentil and tempeh burgers and wraps, yummy desserts, smoothies and juices. Footpath tables in the sun.
Spring has most certainly sprung in our neck of the woods. Jasmine, blue tongue lizards lolling in the sun, butterflies dancing and prancing. And it’s time to buy some daffs or other merchandise to support the Cancer Council and their efforts in the fight against cancer. I will be working one of the two Daffodil Day 2013 stalls at Lismore Shopping Square on FRIDAY 23rd AUGUST, from 9-1pm if you want to say hi to me :). Spread the word, tell your friends, buy a bunch of daffs for someone you love (or someone you would like to love!). See you there!
“Cancer Council is Australia’s peak cancer control organisation and invests approx. $50M a year into research into the causes of cancer, prevention and improved treatments. Nearly 125,000 new cases of cancer will be diagnosed in Australia this year, with that number set to rise to 150,000 by 2020. 1 in 2 Australian men and 1 in 3 Australian women will be diagnosed with cancer by the age of 85.” www.daffodilday.com.au
So I hear the Northern Rivers Roller Derby girls are rated in the Top 10 in Australia, from over 100 Roller Derby teams. That is pretty special. And I also hear that it’s not just a case of strapping on the skates and taking a spin….there’s speed trials and a written test to pass before you make the grade to actually compete! Woah. Serious stuff. And fast and furious. And here’s info for the upcoming bouts and here’s the Facebook.. which is a bit easier to read the fine print….And Natsky is part of if all and does the fab photos!
I would like to let you know that tickets are now selling for the Stone & Wood Seafood Lunch, as part of this years 2013 Sample Food Festival at Bangalow Showground. No, it’s not in Lismore but I am involved as are a few of our restaurants, so I figure its ok to mention it. Two of our region’s finest chefs, Steven Snow (Fins) and John Susman, will be preparing a seafood feast for you on Friday 6th September from midday, under a big marquee while you enjoy a cold Stone & Wood ale or two, seated on hay bales with handmade cushions for your comfort, and reclaimed timber furniture from locals, ‘Dirty Old Town’. $65pp, includes beer. To reserve your tickets send email to: firstname.lastname@example.org. 15/8/13 – SOLD OUT! SOLD OUT! next year…
They visit three halls so there is no excuse to not try Il Carretto Woodfired Pizza. There is the option of Federal Hall on Thursdays, Bexhill Hall on Fridays and Wyrallah Hall on Saturdays. Wyrallah offers the best scenic drive and the best sunset, plus a fab in house retro amplifier attached to Andrea’s ipod, which would work equally as well, if not better, hooked up to a turntable for some vinyl. Must put this to him! and create a little party night. You can BYO. It’s all very “country hall” and we are lucky to have this on offer so give it a try. sweet pizza with cherries and choc – yum! It followed an obligatory ham and pineapple (i had the kid with me) but it was more than good….
